Eight competing and three non-competing communities take part in the People’s Marches parade, which takes place on Saturday on Avenida Luisa Todi in Setúbal.
As announced by the Setúbal City Council, the Clube Recreativo da Palhavã, which did not participate in 2023, and the Núcleo Recreativo e Desportivo Ídolos da Praça, after a 12-year hiatus, are returning to the event this year, increasing from six to eight more the number of participating communities compared with last year.
In addition to these two groups, the presence of the marches Núcleo de Bicross de Setúbal, Grupo Desportivo Independente, Uniãocultural, Recreativa e Desportiva Praiense, Núcleo dos Amigos do Bairro Santos Nicolau, Grupo Desportivo Setubalense `Os 13` and União Desportiva and Recreativa das Pontes.
Also announced are three non-competitive participations in two children’s marches: Núcleo dos Amigos do Bairro Santos Nicolau and Grupo Desportivo Setubalense “Os 13”, in addition to the usual participation in the march of the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of Children. Citizen with mental disabilities (APPACDM) from Setúbal.
According to the Cultural Councilor of the Setubal Chamber, Pedro Pina, quoted in a press release from the municipality of Sadina, the people’s marches in Setubal represent “an inevitable moment in the cultural life of the city, a popular, traditional manifestation that brings much of what the city has in its territories, in their neighborhoods, in their parishes.”
According to the mayor, this year the Setúbal City Council has increased its support for the people’s marches, with a budget of about 200 thousand euros in 2024, including logistical support.
The public presentation parade of Setubal’s marches on Avenida Luisa Todi will take place on Saturday at 22:00, and on June 21 and 22 from 21:30 there will be competitive parades at the Municipal Pavilion of Manteigadas.
The prize presentation is scheduled for 21:30 on June 28 at Forte de Albarquel.
