The mega operation mobilized 370 police officers and led to the arrest of 39 people in Cape Verde.

A mega-operation involving 370 members of the Judicial Police and the Cape Verdean National Police resulted in the arrest of 39 people this Thursday in the city of Praia, according to police information.

According to the joint information of the two police forces, the operation lasted about four hours in Achada Santo António, in the districts of Brazil and Achada Sima, in the center of Praia, and also resulted in the seizure of weapons and drugs.

Outside the crime scene, 34 people, all men, were detained, and five more people, including a woman, were detained at the crime scene.

“From these arrests at the scene of the crime, we contend that small doses of cocaine, hashish and marijuana were found on the individuals,” police said.

“This mega-operation apprehended individuals charged with a gang or group crime, 20 crimes of attempted aggravated murder, 50 crimes of aggravated robbery, six crimes of causing damage, ten crimes of threatening death and 30 crimes of the use of weapons. , in crimes identified from 2014 to the present,” they added.

Several assets and items of allegedly criminal origin were also seized.

“The purpose of this joint mega-operation was to detain persons who committed crimes of a property nature and crimes against people,” the police emphasize, adding that a joint group created as part of a dispatch from the General Prosecutor’s Office of Cape Verde “in order to combat violent crimes” participated in the action. in the city of Praia.
