The board of directors of the local health department of Viseu-Dao-Lafonce resigned this Thursday, June 13th. We are talking about criticism of the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, in the Assembly of the Republic.
“After being surprised and confronted with Your Excellency’s statements, we understand that we no longer meet the conditions to continue fulfilling our mandate,” said a statement sent to the editor and signed by Nuno Duarte, Eduardo Almeida and Melo, Rita Figueiredo , Sandra Gil. and Jose Luis Gomez.
To recap, the health minister said on Wednesday that hospitals had “weak leadership” and announced the creation of monitoring and audit committees on boards of directors to “help them fulfill their mission.”
“As a result, given the lack of confidence in our performance as leaders and managers, we have resigned,” explains the board of directors, who say they have a “clear conscience.”
The shortage of doctors has affected several services at the Viseu hospital, but the final straw was the permanent closure of the pediatric emergency department at the beginning of the month.
Ana Paula Martins has not yet responded to this mass dismissal.
