A collision between a passenger car and a heavy load resulted in a fatality on Thursday on Supplementary Route 8 (IC8), Lusa Civil Protection told Lusa.
The warning about the accident sounded at 19:17 near the industrial zone of Sertão in the Castelo Branco region, a source from the Subregional Command for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of Beira Baixa said.
According to the same source, a 20-year-old car driver was killed.
At 21:25, traffic on the IC8 highway was still blocked in both directions and traffic on the road was diverted onto the National Road 2 (EN2).
27 operational operations were carried out at the scene, supported by 12 GNR vehicles, Sertão firefighters, Coimbra Ambulance and Resuscitation Vehicles (VMER) and Infrastructure Portugal (IP).
