The Minister of the Presidency said this Friday that the government is considering statements from the Minister of Health, who considers the management of the hospital weak, but emphasizes that one cannot take “a small part for the whole.”
“It is clear that the government is reviewing the statements made by the health minister on various aspects. [Ana Paula Martins] did, namely the importance of valuing professionals, management and management,” said António Leitan Amaro at a press conference following the meeting of the Council of Ministers, answering this question from reporters.
Last Wednesday, Ana Paula Martins told the Health Commission that health management was weak and said “control is needed, managers’ performance needs to be assessed.”
According to the Minister of Presidency, the Minister of Health is not talking about several hospital administrations, but about one, namely one local health unit (ULS) of Viseu-Dao-Lafoynes, whose board of directors has meanwhile resigned entirely, alleging that “abuse political trust” on the part of Ana Paula Martins.
António Leitan Amaro said the case was “particularly familiar to him,” adding that the Viseu hospital administration decided “in the absence of the government” to close the pediatric emergency department.
“The government immediately contacted the hospital, and the minister even spent four hours in a meeting jointly developing a plan” to resolve the situation, he said.
According to the minister, the government “did its job,” but “apparently” the board itself did not feel capable of implementing the measures necessary to fulfill its obligations “to the people of the Viseu region.”
