Five million Venezuelans suffer from malnutrition

At least five million people suffer from malnutrition in Venezuela, with food insecurity worsening and leading to an increase in child malnutrition, Caritas Venezuela has warned.

“We don’t know what might happen. We have gone from a huge supply shortage to the market being supplied again (…). Food availability has improved, but access [o poder de compra] (…) it limits the ability to eat and uncertainty about how much one can eat,” said dietitian and Caritas spokeswoman Susana Raffalli on Friday.

Speaking on Catholic radio station Fé e Alegria, Raffalli explained that there are no official data on malnutrition in Venezuela, but estimates can be obtained from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which annually analyzes the situation in countries without adequate access to food supplies.
