The FC Porto academy in Maia has no intention of leaving the project.
Taking into account news promoted by Record Realizing that the previous administration led by Pinto da Costa did not pay the second tranche of the purchase of land at a public auction, the current SAD, led by Andre Villas-Boas, issued a statement emphasizing that it “does not have the capacity for financial institutions to continue the process leading to the acquisition of the land in question” and adds: “FC Porto SAD will now continue to work diligently to analyze and study available alternatives that will allow FC Porto, within the constraints it has and without mortgaging its future, to be equipped with the infrastructure necessary in order to enter modern times and continue to be a benchmark throughout the world.”

“During the election campaign, the current president of FC Porto, André Villas-Boas, expressed concern about the way – hastily and with little thought – the previous administration decided to promote the project of an academy for the education and training of athletes. However, the current president gave guarantees that after his election he will together with his team will carefully analyze the project, in particular from the point of view of utility, completion time and cost.
After taking office on May 28, the new administration conducted the above-mentioned review of various elements of the Maya project, including the status of the public auction procedure for the acquisition of land (which included preliminary meetings with the president of the municipality, as well as with the architectural firm responsible for the project).
Concerns expressed by the new administration about the manner in which the Maya project was decided to move forward, namely without apparently adequate consideration of the Club’s financial capacity to complete at this stage the various steps underlying the project, including the acquisition of the land in question, as well as the apparently expedited process turned out to be quite justified.
In fact, in addition to discovering that, surprisingly, there was no concrete plan for the financial viability of building a training center in Maia, it also emerged that the previous SAD administration at FC Porto had already failed to pay the second installment related to the public auction procedure for acquiring land from the municipality Mayan. Today, the current administration confirmed to CM Maya that at this stage, the Club will effectively not have the financial capacity to continue the process aimed at acquiring the land in question.
FC Porto SAD will now continue to work diligently to analyze and study available alternatives that will allow FC Porto, within the constraints it has and without mortgaging its future, to be equipped with the infrastructure it needs to enter modernity and continue to be a benchmark in everything world. “
