Elvis Presley’s Shoes Cost 140,000 Euros

The blue suede shoes that Elvis Presley wore during his iconic 1956 performance on The Steve Allen Show, in which he sang the classic song “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You”, have sold at auction for $150,000 (around €140,000). The pair of shoes were bought by a private collector living in California, USA.

“The value reflects the importance of this iconic object,” Andrew Aldridge of auction house Henry Aldridge and Son told CBS News, explaining: “When you think of Elvis, you probably think of turned up collars, Las Vegas and pumps. blue suede. This sale once again reflects the enduring fascination with Elvis Presley.”

The work is so associated with Elvis Presley (1935-1977) that he popularized the theme “Blue Suede Shoes” – loosely translated into Portuguese – even though the theme was written by singer-songwriter Carl Perkins .

The shoes were worn all these years by one of Elvis’s friends, Alan Fortas, to whom the singer gave them before leaving for the army.
