The deadline for taxpayers to file an IRS return covering their 2023 income ends this Sunday, and for those who have automatic IRS and have not yet “verified” it, it is considered filed as of that date.
Statistics from the Financial Portal show that by the end of the current week, almost six million declarations (5,974,980) had been filed by 3,728,483 people who had income only from dependent employment and pensions last year, and 2,246,497 by taxpayers with other income categories.
The tax return filing deadline is June 30, rather than the next business day when the deadline falls on a holiday or weekend, as is the case with some other tax reporting obligations.
This date applies to those who are not covered by the automatic IRS, in which case the taxpayer must complete and file their return through the Financial Portal.
Those who use the automated IRS will be covered even if they do not log into the portal to check their return, as it is considered filed on the last day of the due date.
Under current law, AT has until July 31 to settle submitted returns (although most have already been settled), and refunds must be issued by August 31.
For those who have tax due (because the withholdings they made in 2022 were insufficient or they have income not subject to withholding), the deadline for making this payment is also August 31st.
