More than 100 people detained in Turkey due to the collapse of buildings after the earthquake

More than a hundred people connected with the construction business were arrested this Saturday in ten provinces of Turkey affected by earthquakes. Builders are believed to have had some legal responsibility for some buildings allegedly ready to resist the quake that collapsed this Monday and Tuesday.

This was reported by the Turkish news agency Anadolu, cited by North American. New York Times.

After earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.6 that occurred in Turkey and Syria and the tremors that followed, more than 25 thousand people have already died, of which more than 21 thousand victims were found on Turkish soil.

In the wake of the destruction left by the tragedy, the Turkish authorities launched an investigation into some of the builders. This is a violation of the codes put into effect after a similar disaster that occurred in the country in 1999.

This Friday in Istanbul, Turkey, Mehmet Yasar Coskun, the builder of a 12-storey building with 250 apartments in the province of Hatay, was arrested, which collapsed as a result of a natural disaster. He is charged with manslaughter and violation of the law on public construction.
