Two fishermen who were hospitalized at Figueira da Foz Regional Hospital after being rescued from a shipwreck off Marinha Grande on Wednesday have been discharged, a medical source said.
One of the men is the captain of the fishing vessel Virgem Dolorosa, which sank early Wednesday morning, killing three men.
Of the 17 people on the fishing boat that arrived from Figueira da Foz, three are still missing, while eleven survivors were rescued.
The most seriously injured in the flooding, a 57-year-old man, was transferred to the Coimbra Hospital and University Centre and placed in intensive care.
The crash occurred near the beaches of San Pedro de Moel and Vieira de Leiria in the Leiria region.
The search for three missing people from Praia da Leirosa to Figueira da Foz has been expanded this Friday by sea and land, and the conditions for rescuing the boat are being assessed, said Port Master Lusa da Nazaré João Severino Lourenço.
Regarding the rescue of the vessel anchored at Praia do Samuco, in the municipality of Marinha Grande, a private company hired by the ship owner is “refloating the vessel”, in an operation that, given that “three other fishermen are missing, is being accompanied by a member of the forensic diving team of the maritime police”, he explained.
In a situation review late this morning, João Severino Lourenço also said that “the net is being removed” and that the rotation of the vessel and the refloating operation “will depend on the conditions” of the sea, so “since many things can happen today, as well as in a few days.”
The search operations, coordinated by the Port Master and the local commander of the Nazaré Marine Police, today involved a Portuguese Navy ocean patrol vessel, two Amarok vehicles from the Seawatch project, an aerial surveillance team and a police picket. . Maritime.
The operations are also supported by the Civil Protection Service of Marinha Grande and Nazaré, as well as the firefighters of the latter municipality, who are providing support to the divers.
According to the National Maritime Administration, the Marine Police Psychological Unit continues to provide support to the victims’ families.
