The search for the last missing GNR soldier was resumed at 7:30am this Saturday on the Douro River, in Samodoens, Lamego, following the tragic crash of a firefighting helicopter that killed four people.
The plane was carrying five soldiers from the GNR’s Unit for Emergency Protection and Assistance (UEPS) when it sank.
Authorities confirmed the pilot was rescued alive from a tourist boat with broken legs.
The missing 29-year-old soldier may be trapped in the plane’s fuselage, according to Rui da Silva Lampreia, commander of the Douro and Leixões maritime police.
At the scene of the incident there are 94 personnel from the Navy, the National Maritime Authority, the GNR, the Civil Protection, the Zapadores and Lamego volunteer firefighters, five vessels, 32 vehicles, one aircraft and three drones.
The plane crash will be fixed this Saturday.
