Kremlin says Russia will closely monitor NATO summit

The Kremlin said on Tuesday it would closely watch this week’s NATO summit as the alliance declared Moscow an enemy and sought to defeat Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia believes NATO is fully involved in the conflict in Ukraine, Reuters reported.

The summit, which runs from Tuesday to Thursday in the North American capital Washington, will mark the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the same city where 12 countries – including Portugal – signed the treaty in 1949 to ensure their collective defense.

Portugal will be represented at the NATO summit by Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs Paulo Rangel and Minister of National Defence Nuno Melo.
