Socialist Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos said this Monday that the PS “waits for the government’s initiative” on possible negotiations on the 2025 state budget, hoping that everything will be “at the national level”.
Leaving the meeting of the PS National Political Commission, which had entrusted him, at his request, with the task of handling the budget issue, Pedro Nuno Santos explained that this was a normal situation, since when the party is in opposition, “the secretary general is given the mandate to manage the budget process.”
“The initiative belongs to the government, so the PS is waiting for the government’s initiative. The budget was not presented by us, it was not drawn up by us, so the initiative will depend on the government,” he answered the question about when he would contact Prime Minister Luis Montenegro to start these negotiations.
