Miami police made 27 arrests, including the president of the Colombian soccer federation, and expelled 55 people during the Copa America final that Argentina won against Colombia, U.S. authorities said Monday.
Colombian federation leader Ramon Jesurun, 71, was arrested along with his son Ramon Jamil Jesurun, 43, on charges of assaulting several security guards during the match, which Argentina won 1-0 on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The start of the 48th America’s Cup final was delayed after incidents in which stadium doors were left open and hundreds of people tried to get in without tickets.
These attempts took place several hours before the match began, with doors being broken down, fences being jumped and air ducts being used to reach the stands before the entrances were closed.
The incidents, according to the AP news agency, resulted in 27 arrests and 55 expulsions from premises, which were monitored by about 800 security forces.
