A man of about 30 years old learned that the Aveiro Judicial Police, after his presentation to the Criminal Court of Aveiro, had ordered a compulsory preventive detention measure on suspicion of committing several robberies in the Bairrada and Aveiro area.
The arrest came after an operation carried out by the Aveiro Judicial Police in Anadia and Oliveira do Bairro following an investigation into a wave of violent robberies of elderly people and the rape of an 80-year-old woman.
Searches took place simultaneously in Amoreira do Repolao, Oliveira do Bairro and Espairo, Anadia.
GNR from posts in the area and rapid response teams were mobilised to support the search.
The defendant is charged with one count of aggravated robbery and eight counts of misuse of a warranty card or card, device or payment information.
