The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed a yellow warning for hot weather in the Madeira archipelago from 9am this Saturday until 6pm Monday, indicating that maximum temperatures could reach 29 degrees.
The warning applies to the southern and northern coasts, the mountainous areas of Madeira and the island of Porto Santo.
A yellow warning, the least serious of the three, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
Despite the hot weather warning, IPMA is forecasting periods of very cloudy weather from today until Monday across the archipelago, with the possibility of light rain on the northern slopes and in the highlands of Madeira Island.
The forecast also indicates light to moderate winds during this period, with speeds ranging from 10 to 35 km/h.
