Around two dozen vehicles have been vandalised over two days at a public car park in Peniche, prompting outrage from owners and calls for CCTV cameras and increased PSP patrols.
The vehicles were located in the city’s largest park, next to the fire station, but in a remote area with a wall blocking visibility.
Under cover of night, stones were thrown at the window. One of the worst victims was the car rental company Auto Júlio Rent-a-Car Peniche, which had several cars in its fleet. The goal was not to rob, but simply to cause damage.
“When cars are parked in the park, it’s because they weren’t rented and there’s absolutely nothing in them,” says Vera Rosa, the company’s manager.
