Economic and Social Council President Luis Pais Antunes says it is “normal” to have an approved budget, believing that this will happen, and stresses that the country has nothing to gain from repeating elections until exhaustion.
In an interview with Lusa news agency, Luis Pais Antunes said he “expected” the government’s budget proposal to be approved by parliament, believing the result would be “useful for the country.”
Asked about the possibility that this will not be the result and that the first proposal of the budget law of the government led by Luis Montenegro will not be able to gather the necessary number of votes needed for its approval, the new CES president de-dramatizes it.
“I don’t think [o chumbo do OE2025] be dramatic […]”But this is undesirable,” he said, noting that the failure to approve a budget proposal is also a situation to which the law itself responds by providing for a twelfth regime.
Luis Pais Antunes also stressed that political stability is an important value and that the country “has little to gain from repeating elections until we are completely exhausted just because there is a problem here and there is a problem there.”
“I think the country benefits from stability,” he said, adding that while the bill’s content is not dramatic, it is not a normal outcome.
The EEA president, who took office earlier this month, stressed that “it is normal for the budget to be approved annually,” so “it would be desirable for the country to have an approved budget, which would be a good step.” “a budget that would contribute to greater wealth accumulation, increased prosperity, and improved social policy.”
On Friday, the government accepted all parties with seats in parliament on the 2025 state budget.
In a parliamentary composition in which the SDP/CDU-PP coalition does not have an absolute majority, approval of the OE2025 proposal depends on the votes of the largest opposition parties.
