PCP asked the government this Friday about the assumptions behind the “cruel increase” in tolls on the April 25 and Vasco da Gama bridges from January 1 next year.
According to a question addressed to the Minister of Infrastructure, to which Lusa had access, the PKP parliamentary group questioned Pedro Nuno Santos about the “specific assumptions” on which the “toll review” of the two bridges connecting different municipalities in the Lisbon agglomeration was based.
From January 1, 2023, prices will range from 15 to 25 cents for category 01 and from 50 cents to two euros for trucks. This decision by Lusoponte was a “brutal promotion” for the Communists.
“These are unacceptable values that are extremely penalizing all those who use this strategic infrastructure, often on a daily basis,” argues the bench, led by Paula Santos, adding that the costs for Lusoponte “have not grown at the rate of inflation.”
“The withdrawal that the government in public statements already admits to accept” is also not, from the PKP’s point of view, a “true alternative”, since “exchanging this year’s increase for a new extension of the concession period means continuing on Lusoponte’s remuneration, and its shareholders have nothing in return and succumb to their blackmail.”
For this reason, the communists are demanding the “saving of the concession” of the two bridges and are asking the minister if such a possibility is being explored.
