The European Parliament has already voted: to ban the sale of gasoline and diesel cars from 2035

The European Parliament officially approved a law on Tuesday effectively banning the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles in the European Union from 2035 in an effort to speed up the transition to electric vehicles and fight climate change.

The law also sets a 55% reduction compared to 2021 values for CO2 emissions for vehicles sold from 2030.

“The operating costs of an electric vehicle are already lower than those of a car with an internal combustion engine,” Ian Uitema, parliament’s chief negotiator, told Reuters.

EU member states have already approved the legislation.

According to AFP, the law was approved by 340 votes to 279, with 21 abstentions.
