Thunderstorm coming tomorrow, putting orange warnings in 13 areas

An orange warning will be issued for thirteen areas of mainland Portugal from 12:00 Monday to 00:00 Tuesday due to thunderstorms, hail and strong gusts of wind, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) announced this Sunday.

The orange alert level has been activated in the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre and Braga.

Civil Defence has also issued a yellow alert for 18 counties due to heavy rainfall forecast, with much of it expected between 12pm on Monday and midnight on Tuesday.

Yellow alert has also been activated in nine districts of mainland Portugal due to the hot weather forecast, namely Bragança, Évora, Vila Real, Guarda, Setúbal, Santarém, Beja, Castelo Branco and Portalegre. It is in effect from 12:00 this Sunday until 18:00 Monday.

An orange warning is issued by IPMA when the meteorological situation is of moderate to high risk, and a yellow warning when there is a risk to certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
