The government believes that “no one in good faith” can assume that health problems will be resolved in a few months

The president’s minister said today that “no one can honestly assume” that the problems in the health sector will be resolved within a few months, stressing that the government had found itself in a “very difficult” situation due to the “incapacity” of the previous leader.

“Nobody could honestly imagine, suggest, promise, assume that the scale of the problem, the drama, the disorganization in the health care systems could be solved in 60 days, 70 or 80. We have always been clear: we presented an emergency plan and reorganization, because the problem is complex and structural,” the presidency minister said.

This position was taken by António Leitão Amaro at a press conference following the Council of Ministers meeting held at Campus XXI in Lisbon, where he was asked about the current state of emergency in the country and that only two measures of the Government’s Health Plan have been implemented.

Leitan Amaru stressed that the leader of the PSD/SDS-PP minority has always said that the measures in this regard “will be implemented over time, over months and years, and that they will gradually bring results.”

“Our expectation and commitment is to work every day to find answers to a huge problem that has been exacerbated and created by 3,050 days of disability,” he lamented.

Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, accompanied by the President of the Republic and the Minister of Health, visits the oncology service of the Santa Maria Hospital today, while another 1,500 cancer patients are awaiting surgery beyond the recommended time.
