This Friday, a collision between a car and an ambulance transporting patients on the A1 motorway, in the Romeira and Varzea area of Santarém, left five people injured, one of whom was in serious condition, a source in the protection service told Lusa Civil.
Regarding the severity of the injuries of the five victims, one firefighter suffered minor injuries. The serious victim was the user, who was transported by ambulance and then taken to the Santa Maria Hospital, accompanied by a VMER employee of the hospital. The rest of the injured were taken to the Santarem Hospital.
The collision was reported at 1:20 p.m. at kilometer 64.9 south/northbound, involving a truck carrying bricks and an ambulance transporting patients from the Entroncamento Fire Station.
According to ANEPC, 16 ground and 37 operational resources have been mobilized to provide assistance, namely firefighters, the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) and the National Republican Guard (GNR).
Regarding traffic on the A1 motorway in Santarém, a GNR source said that it is restricted in the south/north direction, with traffic moving on the leftmost lane of the three existing lanes.
The Polish People’s Republic confirmed that a passenger car and an ambulance were involved in the accident, noting that, according to the information they have, four people were injured, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
