Fernando Pimenta aims to make history by winning a third Olympic medal

This Saturday, canoeist Fernando Pimenta could become the first Portuguese man to win three Olympic medals if he manages to reach the podium in the K1 1000m at the 2024 Games in Paris.

After winning silver in the K2 1000m with Emanuel Silva in London 2012 and bronze in the K1 1000m at Tokyo 2020, Pimenta, 34, will be aiming to make Olympic history for Portugal and leave behind athletes Carlos Lopes, Fernando Ribeiro and Rosa Mota, as well as racing driver Luis Mena e Silva, who, like Pedro Pichardo, won silver in the triple jump the day before.

To win a medal, player Limiano will first have to get through the semi-final, scheduled for 11:10 local time (10:10 in Lisbon), reserved for the first four, with the final scheduled for 13:20 (12:10.20), in which he could become the first Portuguese Olympic champion outside athletics.

Also at the Stade Nautico de Vaires-sur-Marne, Teresa Portela will compete in her fifth Olympic Games in the K1 500m semi-final, clocking 10:50 (09:50), in a tougher qualification than the men’s K1 1000.

To qualify for the A-Final, Teresa Portela will need to place in the top two races of her series to avoid being relegated to the minor races.

After winning silver in the omnium, cyclist Youri Leitan returns to the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome to take part in the Madison race with Rui Oliveira, which will be Portugal’s Olympic debut in this discipline, scheduled for 17:59. (16:59).

The opening of the penultimate day of competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be the men’s marathon, featuring Samuel Barata, on a route that starts at the Hotel de Ville and ends at Les Invalides, with a visit to the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower or Versailles.

With no Portuguese players competing at the Stade de France, the Portuguese flag will still be raised and Pedro Pichardo will receive the silver medal he won the day before in a ceremony scheduled for 18:41 (17:41).
