Pedro Goncalves, a potential player in the world of football, has had a poor start to the season, scoring three goals and making an assist in just two games, and has revived the interest of several English clubs, led by Aston Villa.
According to the British press, Pote is back on the agenda in this market. He scored a goal and made an assist in the Supertas against Porto (Leonina’s 4-3 defeat), and on Friday he scored twice in the 3-1 win over Rio Ave in the match that marked the start of the league.
This is Pote’s best start at Sporting so far. He is more effective in the finishing zone, where he does not try to make things easier for the goalkeeper, and has even benefited from the more collective play adopted by Gjokeres. This was the case in the first goal of Vila Condenses, when the Swede appeared in front of the goalkeeper and decided to feed the Portuguese striker. The second goal was from the cap, where he showed all his class.
Pote has improved his position in England and is considered an attractive player due to his Premier League experience, having spent one season at Wolverhampton. Despite his contract with Sporting until 2027 and a release clause of €80 million, the transfer could be made official for a much lower sum, i.e. €40 million. The striker is valued at €30 million on Transfermarkt.
Praise to Pote
Coates, who moved from Sporting to Nacional de Montevideo, congratulated Pote on his two goals against Rio Ave. “You keep scoring,” he wrote in an Instagram post, accompanied by a photo of the striker.
Lions train on Monday
Sporting carried out recovery work in Alvalade on Saturday after the victory over Rio Ave. The players will take a break today and begin preparing for the game against Nacional in Madeira on Saturday (18:00) Monday.
