The Public Security Police (PSP) announced on Sunday that they had identified a driver involved in illegal races in São João da Madeira who could be charged with the crime of dangerous driving.
In a statement, the PSP said the São João da Madeira police station in the district of Aveiro took action following complaints about illegal racing taking place in the park, located in the industrial area of Travessas.
The PSP established that they had filed a complaint about an administrative offence for the absence of a mandatory periodic technical inspection, speeding and the absence of civil liability insurance, which is a serious offence that entails the seizure of the vehicle.
The police stressed that “these facts constitute the commission of a crime related to dangerous driving”, which was reported to the court.
The PSP vowed to “continue to be vigilant against this type of illegal activity which constitutes a serious breach of traffic regulations and which endangers the life or physical integrity of participants and spectators.”
Police added that “they will continue to carry out checks and other measures they deem necessary to counter such activities.”
