Afghan Prime Minister Hassan Akhund said Wednesday the country must “uphold the course of Islamic law” as he began celebrations to mark the third anniversary of the Taliban’s conquest of the country.
Our leaders “must be cognizant of the fact that our responsibilities did not end with ‘jihad’ (holy war), we now have a responsibility to uphold the course of Islamic law,” the Taliban prime minister said in a message read earlier to dozens of Taliban leaders and senior officers at the former U.S. base in Bagram ahead of a military parade.
Hundreds of guests gathered at a symbolic former American air base, about 50 kilometers from Kabul, to celebrate the third anniversary of the Taliban’s undisputed rule.
