Seven emergency services in gynaecology and obstetrics and two in paediatrics are closed, according to the National Health Service (SNS).
The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has the largest number of closed services (five), namely: São Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal, Nossa Senhora do Rosário Hospital in Barreiro, Garcia de Orta Hospital in Almada, Santa Maria Hospital (Maternity) in Lisbon and Distrital Hospital das Caldas da Rainha.
According to information published on the SNS portal, the emergency department at the São Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal will be open on Friday and at the end of the week, while the maternity ward on the South Coast is now open.
In the central region, the emergency department of the Santo André Hospital in Leiria has been closed, while in the Algarve, the Portimão Hospital (obstetrics) has been closed.
The Gynaecology and Obstetrics Emergency Service at the Fernando Fonseca Hospital (Amadora-Sintra) is open from 00:00 to 08:00 and from 20:00 to 24:00, and at the San Francisco Xavier Hospital in Lisbon from 00:00 to 09:00.
During this period, services are reserved for internal emergencies and cases referred by the Patient Emergency Centre (CODU) of the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) and through the SNS 24 line.
In total, 35 emergency gynaecology and obstetrics services will be opened in the country, seven will be closed and two will be put on standby, according to information published on the National Health Service (NHS) portal.
According to the same information, the pediatric emergency departments at the Beatriz Angelo Hospital in Loures and the Nossa Senhora do Rosário Hospital in Barreiro are closed, while 40 are open.
Emergency care for children in the hospitals of Viseu and Amadora-Sintra is provided respectively from 20:15 to 23:00 and from 00:00 to 08:00 and from 20:00 to 24:00.
Four gynaecology and obstetrics emergency departments are scheduled to close on Friday, increasing to six on Saturday. Five services will be closed on Sunday.
It also plans to close two pediatric emergency departments on Friday, four on Saturday and five on Sunday.
In a report sent to Lusa on Tuesday, the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (SNS) indicated that 114 births took place in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo last weekend, 56 on Saturday and 58 on Sunday.
On Saturday, most births took place in the local health unit of Loures-Odivelas (12 births) and in MAC (15). On Sunday, in addition to the Alfredo da Costa maternity hospital (10 births), most births took place in the hospitals of Cascais and Amadora-Sintra, with 11 births each.
On Monday, the day of the closure of five emergency gynecology and obstetrics departments, the Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital (MAC) recorded 98 admissions and 25 births, five of which were caesarean sections, the highest figure since at least 2013, a year in which 22 births were recorded on one day in January.
