This Sunday, Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) was close to the top ten at the Austrian Grand Prix in Spielberg, where he took his first MotoGP victory, but Francesco Bagnai (Ducati) finished 12th in his seventh victory of the year.
The Portuguese started from 13th place on the grid for 28 laps of the 11th round of the FIM World Speedway Championship, where he won in 2020, but after another start he lost five positions and ultimately condemned his race to a recuperation of places.
Up front, Jorge Martin (Ducati) started from pole but two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia, with whom he shared the top spot in the riders’ standings after Saturday’s sprint race, took the lead on lap two to see it through to the finish.
Pecco Bagnaia claimed his 25th career triumph and seventh in 2025 to take the championship lead with 275 points, five more than second-placed Martin, while Enea Bastianini (Ducati) remains third with 214 points.
The Italian finished with a time of 42.11.173, winning comfortably by 3.232 seconds over Martin, second, who ran with a deep kick to his left thumb, and by 7.357 seconds over Bastianini, third, in a repeat of his World Championship podium in Spielberg.
Spaniard Marc Marquez (Ducati) finished fourth after a significant recovery. The six-time world champion started from the front row of the grid, but a problem with the suspension locking system on his bike caused him to lose several places, also retiring after making contact with Italian Franco Morbidelli (Ducati).
After that, Marquez managed to rise from 13th place on the first lap to fourth after 19 laps, but without threatening the trio of passengers on the podium.
Miguel Oliveira faced a similar problem, finishing in 12th place, 30.702 seconds behind Bagnaia.
The Almada driver, who achieved his best result of the year in Germany with sixth place before retiring in the UK, had a normal start but lost five places to 18th place on the first lap due to a small run off the track.
Oliveira strengthened his position to 13th on lap 11, taking advantage of Jack Miller’s (KTM) fall, falling behind the Spaniard and his teammate Raul Fernandes, whom he only managed to overtake on lap 19.
He even overtook Pol Espargaro (KTM), who was “fighting” with Alex Marquez (KTM) for 10th place, but ended up in 12th place, behind the Spaniards.
The difference for both was small, with Oliveira finishing 434 hundredths of a second behind Alex Marquez in 10th place and 176 seconds behind Pol Espargaro in 11th place.
With this result and five more points, Oliveira remains in 13th place in the drivers’ standings with 55 points.
The next round of the MotoGP World Championship, the 12th, will be the Aragon Grand Prix, which will be held in Spain from August 30 to September 1.
