More than one in three adults in the European Union are not adhering to the World Health Organization’s recommendations for physical activity, with Portugal ranked worst among 27 countries, according to a report released on Friday.
A report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Health Organization (WHO) concludes that in 2016, 35.4% of adults in 27 countries of the European Union were underactive according to WHO criteria. recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity per week.
Of the 27 EU member states, Finland was the top ranked country with less than 20% of adults not meeting the WHO guidelines, while Portugal was at the opposite extreme, with over 45% of adults not meeting the recommendations.
