With two and a half months to go before the decision is made, the US presidential election has acquired a new hero. Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, owner of Tesla, SpaceX and the social network X, has decided this time to take a stand against the candidates and publicly support Republican Donald Trump in the race for the White House.
The former president’s satisfaction at returning to office was palpable, and Trump responded to the praise on Monday with a promise: If he defeats Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and returns to the presidency, he wants Musk, if available, to be part of his administration.
Asked by Reuters whether he would consider the multimillionaire for a possible adviser position or even in the executive branch, Trump said yes. “He’s a very smart guy. I’m sure [a considerar]. If he did [aceitasse o cargo]I would definitely do that [o convite]”He’s a brilliant guy,” the candidate replied.
The rapprochement between Trump and Musk grew closer when the Republican candidate was targeted in an assassination attempt at a rally last month, suffering an ear injury. At the time, Musk said, “I fully support President Trump and hope he makes a speedy recovery.”
Last week, the two spoke live on X, the social network from which Trump was banned before Musk took over. The video, which attracted 18.8 million views, saw the former US president stir controversy by praising the businessman for laying off workers to prevent strike attempts: he is the “biggest cost-cutter,” he said.
