Demand for used electric vehicles is growing

Electric cars have flooded the new and used car market. According to Standvirtual, the July balance shows that electric cars have registered the largest increase in demand in the used car market compared to the same period last year.

According to the Portuguese Automobile Association, sales of new electric vehicles grew by 23% in July, a segment that has seen a growth of almost 12% since the beginning of the year. A total of 154,604 new vehicles were put into circulation in July, of which more than 60,000 were electric. In the used car market, despite the fact that the market has recorded a decline, “the demand for electric vehicles is showing the opposite behavior, that is, it continues to grow compared to the same period last year,” assures the CEO of Standvirtual. A reality that, according to Nuno Castel Branco, is linked to “a change in the consumption habits of the Portuguese, as they increasingly invest in electrified vehicles.” On the other hand, he adds, new trams that have entered the market are now arriving in greater quantities than used ones. In July, demand for electric and hybrid vehicles was led by the Tesla Model 3, Renault Zoe and Hyundai Kauai. Globally, all alternative energy vehicles (electric, petrol or diesel hybrids and plug-in hybrids) accounted for about 13% of demand in July.
