On Thursday, PCP considered the intention to file lawsuits for insults by users against medical workers in the Santa Maria department to be disproportionate, but condemned the insults and justified people’s dissatisfaction with the reduction in investment in SNS.
At a press conference in Parliament on access to health care, Paula Santos, the parliamentary leader of the PCP, said she could not “take disproportionate actions” in reference to Santa Maria’s intention, but chose to criticise the government, bearing in mind that the source of users’ discontent was the reduction in investment in the NHS.
“It is one thing when situations of injury and abuse occur, and this has been reported even in some more serious situations, including aggression against health workers. Naturally, we cannot tolerate this situation. Another thing is, in fact, the situation we are living in. on social networks as a result of the disinvestment it has suffered in recent decades,” she said after being asked about the intention of the local health department (ULS) of Santa Maria to initiate legal proceedings against users who insult health workers on social networks.
Paula Santos said health workers often work in “inadequate” conditions, stressing her demand for the same working conditions.
“We have no doubt that such situations arise not because of the responsibility of health workers, because they do everything naturally to provide citizens with the best care, but because there is no investment to ensure this response. This is exactly what is happening at the moment,” the MP added.
Paula Santos reiterated that the focus must be on solving the problems of SNS, but she will not oppose initiatives from other parties to request a hearing on this intention of the Santa Maria health unit.
“There are several issues here in the healthcare sector that require these answers, and even these situations are resolved if these answers are given. The issue here is not that users are opposed to medical workers,” the deputy added.
The Santa Maria Local Health Unit (ULS) is initiating legal proceedings against people who insult their health workers on social media, saying the insults go beyond freedom of expression.
PS has already asked the government whether it intends for ULS Santa Maria to repeal the order to prosecute its social media professionals, criticising the “subconscious intention to embarrass” users.
IL has requested an urgent hearing from the President of the Local Health Department (ULS) of Santa Maria over the threat of legal action against users who insult health workers on social media, which he classifies as an “act of censorship.”
