More than a hundred firefighters, supported by eight air forces, are fighting the fire in Mazuco, in Freixo de Espada a Cinta, which broke out early Friday morning, said Mayor Luce.
“There are currently 150 Portuguese and Spanish firefighters fighting the fire, which is burning very intensely, supported by nine aircraft. [entretanto um foi retirado]”Our biggest concern is that it will move forward towards the village of Mazuco,” Nuno Ferreira explained.
The challenge, said the mayor of the southern Bragança district, is to prevent the fire from reaching the forest bordering the village of Mazuco, where all available resources, such as surveillance vehicles, are concentrated.
“We expect this fire to be contained within a few hours of hard work, but at this point no property or people are in danger,” the mayor stressed.
The first wave was sent at 13:29.
Mazuco is a place located at the top of the Douro International Natural Park (PNDI).
According to the National Directorate of Emergencies and Civil Protection (ANEPC), at 17:55 there were 104 Portuguese operatives on the scene, supported by 29 vehicles and eight aircraft.
