Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi said the country has port infrastructure with potential for cooperation with China, praising the Asian country’s socio-economic development model.
In the south, the Maputo port is used by Zimbabwe’s neighbours, Eswatini and South Africa; in the centre, the Beira port serves Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe; and in the north, Zambia and Malawi use the deep-water Nacala port, Nyusi said.
The Mozambican head of state spoke at a meeting with the government at the Shanghai City Council as part of his working visit to the People’s Republic of China.
He considered the Asian country an example of a development model that advocated the importance of bilateral cooperation.
“We want to welcome the economic successes of not only Shanghai, but all of China. The policies of President Xi Jinping give us the strength and freedom to develop,” said the head of the Mozambican state.
Nyusi also praised the Chinese government’s willingness to help the African country fight terrorism in Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique.
The President of Mozambique began a six-day working visit to the People’s Republic of China on Saturday at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, the Office of the President of the Republic of Mozambique said in a statement.
The head of Mozambique will attend the 9th China-Africa Cooperation Summit and the China-Mozambique Business Forum, the press release said.
