According to the diploma, the extraordinary supplement intended for pensioners will be paid in two stages proportionally to pensioners who accumulate social security pensions together with Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) pensions.
The supplement will be paid with your October 2024 pension, meaning Social Security retirees will get their check on October 8, while CGA retirees will get their check on October 18.
However, for pensioners who receive through these two systems (social security and CGA), “the supplement is paid by each of the responsible persons in proportion to the value of the pension in question on the date of granting the supplement,” the decree explains. The law was published in Diário da República on Friday.
Last week, the government approved in the Council of Ministers the allocation of an emergency supplement for pensioners with lower pensions, the estimated cost of which is around 422 million euros.
Portuguese with a gross pension of up to €509.26 (equivalent to the social support index) will receive a bonus of €200. For those with a gross pension of between €509.26 and €1,018.52, the increase will be €150. Gross pensions of between €1,018.62 and €1,527.78 will be entitled to a check of €100.
It should be noted that this is a per-pensioner allowance, not a per-pension allowance, so anyone receiving multiple pensions will see these amounts added together to determine whether they are eligible.
The beneficiaries will include disability, old-age and survivor pensioners from the Social Security system, pensioners, old-age and survivor pensioners from the CGA, and pensioners from the banking sector, a total of 2.4 million.
