Mariana Mortagua announced this Monday her official candidacy for the post of head of the Left Bloc.
“I am a candidate for the coordinators of the Left Bloc,” Mariana Mortagua said at a press conference where she presented a proposal that would be signed by about 1,300 blockers.
The announcement came two weeks after still BE coordinator Katarina Martins announced that she would leave the party leadership at the National Convention on 27 and 28 May in Lisbon.
The blockist MP left several criticisms of the Socialist Party, stating that “an absolute majority has never been anything more than arrogance.” “We see the socialist party dedicating itself to facilitating the Chega dispute and thus fueling the far right in Portugal,” he added.
Mariana Mortagua believes that the biggest challenge for the bloc is “to confront the absolute majority that dooms the country to poverty.”
