GNR sergeants accuse general command of “disrespect” and mismanagement

The National Association of Guard Sergeants (ANSG) warned this Monday of “outrage” that exists in the classroom over how the GNR General Command devalues ​​the role of the sergeants who are being replaced by officers.

The ANSG statement indicated that the sergeants of the National Republican Guard met this weekend, where they reported a “widespread sense” of resentment and lack of motivation, and also accused the general command of the GNR of “functional disrespect for professionals.” category”. .

At stake, according to the president of the ANSG, is the recent internal policy of the high command, which has gone through “usurpation of functions” by officers and “violation of the status of the armed forces of the PPR.”

José López told Lusa that GNR officers were replacing the sergeants, who in turn would serve as guards.

The official stressed that the functions of a sergeant are command and control, but at present they are reduced to “simply executive and administrative functions.”

The ANSG president also considered that this situation was due to the fact that the GNR had “a lot of soldiers in the officer category” and, in turn, “poorly distributed sergeants” and not enough guards.

According to the ANSG, there are currently 2,400 sergeants in the GNR.

“The problem is not the numbers. The problem is management. The entire apparatus of the GNR is poorly managed,” he explained, adding that “sergeants do not perform their functions, but the functions of a lower level.”

José López emphasized that “the devaluation of the category and functions causes demotivation and resentment.”

“The internal policy of the command, through pretentious actions and / or inactions, which are reflected, in particular, in the category of sergeants, in disrespect for statutory, remuneration and official duties, override the interests of the institution to satisfy the will, which over time becomes ineffective and contrary to the desire for public security and treasury of the public purse,” the sergeants write in a statement made at the meeting.

The ANSG also highlights that “the meeting brought to light the common denominator, resentment and strong cohesion of the Guard Sergeants in combating ingratitude and functional disrespect for their professional category through repeated behavior by Guard Command.”

The National Association of Guards Sergeants has asked Interior Minister José Luis Carneiro to pay attention to this situation and address other issues they consider important, such as pay increases, statutory functions and training.
