Domingos Pereira, current Vice President of the Chamber of Barcelos, announced this morning the decision to submit “soon” a request for a “suspension of the mandate”. We are talking about the decision of the Court of Appeal of Guimarães, which this Monday confirmed the sentence of two years and 10 months in prison, to which the mayor was sentenced by the Braga court in May last year for corruption. The court considered it proven that in 2016, when he was a councilor, Domingos Pereira agreed to receive an envelope with ten thousand euros in order to give a job in the Chamber to a young man from Barcelos.
In a statement sent this morning, Domingos Pereira, coordinator of the Barcelos Terra de Futuro movement, guarantees “innocence” and says he has a “clear conscience”. Thus, he emphasizes the intention to appeal against the now known decision.
Domingos Pereira was part of the “Barcelos Mais Futuro” coalition with the PSD, winning the elections to the Chamber of Barcelos.
