A man was found dead on Canide Norte beach in Vila Nova de Gaia this morning, the cause of death is still unknown, the National Maritime Authority said in a statement on Saturday.
“Following an alarm received at 07:51 via the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon) reporting the presence of a body on Canid Norte Beach, a commando unit of the Douro Maritime Police. Firefighters from Coimbrões and INEM also arrived on the scene,” the Navy said in a statement.
According to the same note, when the authorities arrived at the scene, the presence of the body was confirmed, “death was pronounced on the spot by INEM elements.”
“The late body was removed from the beach and taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Medicine of Porto by the volunteer firefighters of Coimbroins, as indicated by the public prosecutor of the Court of Criminal Investigations of Porto,” the communiqué said. .
