Man sues ex-wife’s friends who helped her get an abortion

This Thursday, a US man sued three friends of his ex-wife for allegedly helping her get an abortion last summer in the US state of Texas. Marcus Silva accuses the victims of an “unjust death” and now demands a million dollars (about 940 thousand euros) for each, the Reuters agency clarifies.

Since June 2022, several US states have again made it illegal to terminate a pregnancy, including Texas, where it is also illegal to encourage or assist a woman to do so.

“Noyola, Carpenter, and Garcia knew they were assisting or abetting an abortion, which is an illegal act and a felony of murder under Texas law,” the lawsuit says.

It should be noted that although Brittney, the ex-wife of Marcus Silva, had an abortion, she is exempt from criminal or civil liability under state law.

Brittney Silva divorced Marcus in February 2022. Some communications between the woman and her friends prove that they discussed the possibility of terminating the pregnancy. In conversations, Noyola and Carpenter provided some links through which he could access the appropriate pills. According to Marcus, the abortion pills were delivered to Garcia’s house.

A hearing in the case has been scheduled for June 8.
