WHO detects eight more Marburg cases in Equatorial Guinea and warns of wider transmission

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced eight more laboratory-confirmed cases of Marburg virus infection in Equatorial Guinea this Thursday, bringing the total to nine, with 20 more cases likely since the outbreak began.

“Since the first outbreak notification was issued on February 25, eight more laboratory-confirmed cases of Marburg disease have been diagnosed in Equatorial Guinea, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to nine and 20 probable cases,” the statement said. this Thursday WHO.

“Seven deaths have already been confirmed in the laboratory and all probable cases have died,” the WHO adds, noting that “of the new eight confirmed cases, two were from the province of Kie Ntem, two from the coast and two from the provinces in the center of the south” and a warning that “areas in which cases are being reported are 150 kilometers apart, suggesting wider transmission of the virus.”
