Six people were arrested in a special crime prevention operation in and around a nightclub in the city of Leiria, the Public Security Police (PSP) said on Monday.
The PSP statement said that two of the detainees were carrying prohibited weapons, three were driving while intoxicated, and one was arrested for resistance and coercion by an official, an agent of this security service.
According to the PSP, several protocols were also drawn up on administrative offenses, one of which was for possession of pepper spray, the other for the lack of communication between the security guard and the private security department of the PSP, and several related to traffic violations.
The PSP explained that 55 police officers from the district of Leiria (Criminal Investigation, Public Order, Traffic and Patrol), as well as from explosive weapons and private security units, participated in this operation at dawn on Sunday. The action was further reinforced by a group from the Intervention Corps of the Special Police Unit.
The Department of Investigations and Criminal Affairs of the State Ministry of Leiria, the Directorate of Food and Economic Security, the Directorate of Taxation and Customs and the Service for Foreigners and Border Guards also took part in this operation.
“Through this police action, the Leiria County PSP Command believes that it will strengthen the public peace of the residents of the community and protect them daily,” the PSP said, appealing to the population “for the need to communicate and participate with the authorities of the city of any views and behavior that they consider suspicious “.
Leiria County PSP Commander José Figueira told the Lusa news agency that the banned weapons seized are retractable batons and ensure that identical operations continue “where and when necessary”.
