The driver was detained in a traffic operation in the municipality of Pombal with 30,081 doses of drugs, the National Republican Guard (GNR) said on Monday, which said the suspect was placed under preventive detention.
A statement from the GNR Leiria Territorial Command explained that “as part of a traffic safety check, the military guards approached a passenger in a vehicle who was behaving suspiciously.”
“Confirming that the man was still nervous, the car was searched, 30,081 doses of drugs were found and seized, which led to his red-handed arrest,” he added.
According to GNR, as a result of the action, 15,390 doses of cocaine, 14,691 doses of hashish, a digital scale, a mobile phone, a car and 855 euros were seized.
Following the arrest, a search was carried out at the residence of the suspect, aged 45, “having a criminal record for offenses of the same nature”, as well as another search at an institution in Figueira da Foz, Coimbra district, seizing five thousand euros. . . .
A GNR source told the Lusa news agency that the driver, who runs the event venue in Figueira da Foz, where he was residing, was arrested on Friday during a random road operation.
Present at the first interrogation on Saturday at the Judicial Court of Leiria, he was assigned a compulsory measure of pre-trial detention.
The action carried out by the GNR territorial unit in Pombal was supported by the public security police of Figueira da Foz.
