A shooting in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, US, has left at least five people dead and eight injured, the city’s police department said. Of the eight hospitalized victims, two are in critical condition, one of them is a police officer.
According to the agency Reuters, shortly after confirming the attack, police said the shooter was dead, without adding further details. However, it is not clear if the attacker was among the five dead. However, the police described the gunman as either a current or former employee of the bank where the shooting took place.
Police are currently working to determine if the attacker committed suicide or was shot dead by police, Paul Humphrey, deputy chief of the Louisville Police Department, told reporters.
The attack took place inside the Old National Bank, located on East Main Street, in downtown Louisville, and several witnesses who left the building told WHAS-TV that they heard gunshots inside.
