The Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into alleged errors and malpractice in the surgical service at the Hospital de Faro exposed by a trainee doctor, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) said Monday.
“The initiation of an investigation on the issue under consideration has been confirmed. The same applies to conditions in DIAP. [Departamento de Investigação e Ação Penal] de Faro”, gave the PGR to the Lusa agency.
This investigation follows a complaint filed by in-house doctor Diana de Carvalho Pereira, reported on her Twitter social media account, to the Judicial Police about “11 cases that occurred between January and March” at a Faro hospital for “mistake/negligence” . in the service of surgery.
Of the 11 patients reported, the doctor said, “three died, two were hospitalized in interim care, the rest had malpractice-related injuries ranging from accidental castration, loss of kidneys, or needing a colostomy for the rest of their lives.”
Lusa has also contacted the Ordem dos Médicos to respond to these complaints, but has yet to receive a response.
