The instructive debate on the BES/GES process begins on Tuesday at the Monsanto Court in Lisbon, about a year after the briefing phase began and almost three years after the Prosecutor’s Office (MP) became aware.
On July 14, 2020, an investigation by the Central Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Affairs (DCIAP) resulted in the indictment of 25 defendants (18 individuals and seven companies), including former Espírito Santo Group (GES) President Ricardo Salgado. . The former banker is credited with 65 crimes, namely the criminal community, active corruption, document forgery, skilled fraud, money laundering, adultery and market manipulation.
The first meeting to hear witnesses within the framework of the investigation took place only on April 26, 2022 at the Central Criminal Executive Court (TCIC) after two postponements due to health problems of Judge Ivo Rosa, and there were already 29 defendants (23 people and six companies) .
