The National Maritime Authority (AMN) this Friday advised the public to take safety measures at beaches and coastal areas during the weekend when temperatures are expected to rise above 30 degrees.
Speaking to the Lusa agency, the spokesman for the AMN and the Portuguese Navy, Commander José Sousa Luis, warned that temperatures are high at this time of the year, but there is still a “winter sea” that poses a high risk due to the effects of maritime agitation.
The AMN statement said the morphology of the sea has also “altered due to the high seas that typically occur during this period of the year, creating seabeds, steep slopes, whirlpools and streams on beaches that are not signposted. this time of year”.
