A fisherman died this Friday in Nazaré when the boat he was fishing with sank off the coast of Praia do Salgado in Nazaré. The alarm was announced around 10:30.
The 57-year-old “was a local fisherman, had several decades of experience, usually went out to sea alone and had an accident in which the boat capsized,” Port Commander Nazare Mario told the agency. Lopez Figueiredo.
A vessel less than 10 meters long, registered in the port of Nazare, was spotted by a member of the public who alerted the authorities.
A NCIS patrol close to the scene “immediately began searches on land,” the captain’s commander said, adding that a ship from the Salva Vidas station in Nazaré was also involved in the search at sea.
The National Maritime Authority said in a statement that “on arrival at the scene, searches were immediately launched on land by the maritime police and volunteer firefighters, as well as at sea by the crew of the rescue station.”
The body was later discovered and collected by the Estação Salva-vidas da Nazaré team, who took it to Porto da Nazaré.
The death was declared on the spot by the Health Delegate and the body was later transported by volunteer firefighters from Nazaré to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Medicine in Leiria in accordance with the instructions of the State Ministry.
The assets of the maritime police, the rescue station and firefighters from Nazare were on site, who participated in the search on land.
The NCIS psychological department was called in to provide support to the victim’s relatives.
